OVERVIEW

Washington College in Chestertown, MD offers the perfect setting for field hockey training with exceptional facilities. The college creates an ideal space for players to refine their skills and reach their full potential. This summer, join us for a fun and rewarding camp experience focused on enhancing your field hockey abilities, alongside the Washington College coaching staff.

The camp is open to all ages and ability levels. Each participant will be assessed and grouped with others of a similar age and skill level. Adjustments to groups may be made throughout the week to ensure campers have the opportunity to train with and compete against different players. Through a mix of drills, games, and scrimmages, each camper will have the chance to learn, improve, and enjoy field hockey in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Alex Calder-Butler joined Washington College in July 2023 from Gwynedd Mercy University, where she served as the head coach from 2020-22.

In her first campaign with the Shorewomen, Calder-Butler guided the team to eight wins, including a 2-0 win over #16 Ursinus. Two players earned All-Centennial honors in her inaugural season leading the team.

Shorewomen Field Hockey picked up a pair of wins over nationally ranked teams in her second season guiding the squad in 2024, including a 2-1 overtime win versus NCAA Tournament squad #16 Shenandoah and a 4-3 triumph at #24 Swarthmore. The team had two players land all-conference recognition, and one Shorewoman secured NFHCA (National Field Hockey Coaches Association) All-Region V honors.

In Calder-Butler’s third season, the team played 11 of 18 games against teams that were nationally ranked in the NFHCA Division III poll at some juncture during the season. Washington had one all-conference selection, a second team honoree.

During her three seasons as coach of the Shorewomen, the squad has earned a pair of NFHCA National Team Academic Awards,and two Centennial Conference Scholar-Athletes of the Year for Field Hockey in Kat Esposito in 2024 and MaryCate Anson in 2025. Also under her watch, Esposito earned an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and Centennial Conference Female Tri-Scholar-Athlete of the Year in addition to Centennial Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Field Hockey .

In her first full season at Gwynedd Mercy in 2021, she guided the Griffins to the semifinals of the Atlantic East Conference tournament. The Griffins would make it back-to-back with another appearance at the AEC Tournament in 2022.

Under Calder-Butler, the Griffins received two NFHCA All-Region picks, three first team All-AEC selections, and a pair of second team nods. The team was also consistently recognized by the NFHCA for its academic achievements with dozens of All-Academic awards and one team award designation.

Calder-Butler played collegiately at Gettysburg for four years as a midfielder and served as captain for the Bullets during her senior season. After graduating from Gettysburg with an English degree, Calder served as a graduate assistant coach at St. Lawrence University. She completed her master’s degree in educational leadership before taking over at Gwynedd Mercy in 2020.

Our goal is to help players of all abilities enhance every aspect of their game. Our camps emphasize individual skill development while incorporating drills and scrimmages to foster teamwork and strategy.

Key features of our field hockey staff include: Low camper-to-coach ratios; groups organized by age and skill level and a fun, energetic, and experienced coaching team.

CHECK IN & CHECK OUT

Full Day Campers: Check in at 8:45am each day starting on Tuesday. Campers should be picked up at 3:00pm each day ending on Friday. Campers should bring a packed lunch and plenty of liquids.

Half Day Campers: Check in at 8:45am each starting on Tuesday. Campers should be picked up at Noon each day ending on Friday. Campers should bring a snack and plenty of liquids.

What to Bring to Camp

Below is a suggested list of items to bring to camp. We recommend that campers avoid bringing expensive personal items such as cell phones or laptops. Campers are permitted to bring cell phones to camp for contacting their guardians, but phones are not allowed on the field during training sessions. Please make sure to label all items you bring to camp. All personal belongings are the responsibility of the camper. Revolution Field Hockey and its camp staff are not responsible for lost, stolen, or forgotten items.
