OVERVIEW

The Field Hockey & Leadership Academy is a unique camp where players not only enhance their field hockey skills but also learn to be effective leaders and strong teammates. This is the perfect opportunity for dual-sport athletes, as you have the opportunity to train in lacrosse as well as field hockey.

At camp, we focus on helping campers understand the value of being part of something bigger than themselves, – whether it’s a team, a cause, or a community. The program combines top-tier field hockey instruction with leadership workshops and off-field activities designed to promote teamwork, communication, and leadership. By the end of the camp, participants will not only be better field hockey players, but also valuable leaders who have the potential to make an impact on their team, school, or community.

Join us for a transformative summer experience which takes place in the beautiful setting of Lakeville, CT. The Hotchkiss School offers state-of-the-art facilities, making it the perfect setting for the Field Hockey & Leadership Academy.

The camp is open to all ages and ability levels. Each participant will be assessed and grouped with others of a similar age and skill level. Adjustments to groups may be made throughout the week to ensure campers have the opportunity to train with and compete against different players. Through a mix of drills, games, and scrimmages, each camper will have the chance to learn, improve, and enjoy field hockey in a supportive and dynamic environment.

Camp Director

Jessica Bergen
Jessica BergenHead Coach at Trinity College

Jessica Bergen enters her second season as Trinity College Head Field Hockey Coach for the 2024 season. In her inaugural season at the helm, Bergen posted a 9-7 record with a 4-6 mark in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). The Bantams earned the eighth-seed in the NESCAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament, falling to top-seed and eventual National Champions Middlebury College, 6-1.

Prior to Trinity, Bergen served as Head Field Hockey Coach at Westfield State University from 2012-2022. Bergen registered an 85-101 record with the Owls, ranking second in program history in coaching wins. Bergen guided Westfield State to Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Championships in 2014 and 2021. During her 11 seasons at the helm, the Owls made five Little East Conference (LEC) Championship Tournament appearances, including a run to the Championship game in 2017. Bergen received Little East Conference Coach of the Year honors in 2021.

Bergen began her coaching career at Springfield College, where she was an assistant coach from 2008 to 2010, helping the Pride capture the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) crown and earn a berth in the NCAA Championship Tournament in her first season. Springfield finished as the NEWMAC runner-up in Bergen’s second year, and she went on to serve as head coach at Southwick-Tolland High School in Massachusetts from 2010 to 2012

A 2008 graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Bergen competed on four nationally-ranked field hockey teams, participated in four Liberty League Championships, and hosted two NCAA regional matches advancing to the second round of the tournament. She was also a member of the softball program and SAAC during her time at Skidmore. Bergen earned a master of science in exercise science with a concentration in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield College.

Coach Bergen joined USA Field Hockey in 2014 as a Futures Coach in the Northeast Region, which led to her directing sites in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Recently, she has worked as a coach educator with USAFH, and is now a Nexus Regional Administrative Manager. Coach Bergen is also the Director of our Connecticut Top of the Class Showcase event.
