This year will mark the fourth annual National Field Hockey Day. And of course, all of you big field hockey fans will want to help celebrate it in the right way. Let’s make it bigger and better than any year before (and then let’s keep making it bigger and better every year after.) How can you celebrate, though?

10 Things to Do Before and on National Field Hockey Day

Here are 10 things you can do to celebrate National Field Hockey Day.

  1. Figure out when it is.

One of the first things you need to do to celebrate any holiday is to find out when it is being celebrated. So, in order to celebrate field hockey’s day, you first need to learn when it is.

Unfortunately for you, all we can do this early is guess. This year, National Field Hockey Day will probably be held on September 12th. However, if you want to know for sure, just keep checking the USA Field Hockey Team site.

  1. Find a tournament to play in or watch.

The best way to celebrate this sport’s day is to actually play or watch the sport. Do some research ahead of time. Is there a tournament near you that you can enter or watch? Maybe your whole team can participate or maybe you can be a pick up player. If you can find one, this is the perfect way to celebrate.

  1. Create a tournament or clinic.

If you did all of the research, and found that there is no tournament anywhere around you, then why don’t you just make one? You can create your own tournament or hold a clinic on the day in order to mark this special occasion.

  1. Invite a bunch of people over to play a game.

If you are not the type to create whole tournaments from scratch, that’s okay. It is a whole lot of work. But that does not mean you cannot go out there and play ball. All you need is an empty field, and it doesn’t even have to be an actual field hockey field, some gear, a couple of nets, and a few willing participants.

  1. Make accessories to wear on the big day.

Whether you are going to be playing, watching, or just thinking about field hockey on this special day, have fun with DIY projects.

· Make a shirt that says how much you love the sport.
· Create some signs about the day.
· Get creative and have some fun.

There are many things you can do for this, so let your imagination run wild.

  1. Support field hockey organizations.

There are a lot of great field hockey organizations out there that are dedicated to bringing the sport to people that do not have it or as methods to bring kids who might get into trouble something to do instead.

You can donate to their cause or hold some type of fundraiser where the proceeds go to them. You do not need to feel obligated to give a lot. Everything is important.

  1. Connect with Team USA on social media.

Team USA is the initiator of this day, so check in and see what they are doing. You can follow all of their social media accounts on the days leading to National Field Hockey Day and on the day of to see what is going on with them and with other field hockey lovers all over the world. You could get a really cool idea of how to celebrate from someone on the other side of the country.

  1. Follow Flashback Friday.

The day before National Field Hockey Day is Flashback Friday. People will send Team USA photos of themselves from ‘back in the day’ playing field hockey, sitting at games, in uniform, or in any other hockey-adjacent form.

Then, Team USA will post many of these pictures on their social media accounts. You can have a lot of fun looking through the pictures and seeing all of the people all over the country that love the sport as much as you do.

  1. Participate in Flashback Friday.

Even better than following Flashback Friday posts is to participate in Flashback Friday. You can submit photos of yourself in various field hockey related situations and send it to Team USA’s email address by the cutoff date or post it on social media and tag it with the right hashtag.

Not only will you be able to potentially see your photo on Team USA’s page, but you will have a lot of fun looking back at all of your old photos and seeing what a good time you have had with field hockey.

  1. Sign up to coach a team or mentor younger players.

On this day, take a moment to think about how much you love the sport and all of the good times that you have had playing it. Now, think about all that you could do to help the people who have yet to experience this great game.

Perhaps you can find a team of kids that needs a coach or an assistant coach. If you do not have the time to coach for an entire season, mabye you can give some lessons or offer some advice to younger players.

Have Field Hockey Fun All Year Long

Make sure to have a lot of fun this National Field Hockey Day, but remember that field hockey is fun all year long so don’t just enjoy it on its holiday. Play on teams, go to summer camp, and enjoy the sport year-round.
